Excellent service

I had a lovely stay at The Bear Hotel in Devizes. When I arrived, my room had a single bed, so I asked if an upgrade was possible. The staff were incredibly helpful and kindly gave me a free upgrade to a larger room, which was very much appreciated. The location is lovely and ideal for exploring Devizes, and the service throughout my stay was excellent. Friendly, accommodating staff and a comfortable room made this a great experience. I would happily stay here again.

Great pub, with good food, entertainment and wonderful staff

Excellent food, great menu, something for everyone. Really lovely pub. Staff are great. Shout out to Clare for the monthly music quiz and Charlie for keeping us entertained!

A great experience.

I loved this place. My room was large, very clean and charming. The breakfast was excellent, local high quality ingredients and included in the room rate. The staff were extremely friendly.
This is about as English experience you will see - if you are visiting from abroad this is as genuine as you will get; if you are from Britain, the best version of nostalgia you will get.
All situated in a lovely town, charming but real.

Lively service, excellent food and great range of beers and wine.

Lovely service, excellent food, great range of beers and wine! Not our first visit, we’ve tried all the pubs and restaurants in the town and the Sunday roast at The Bear is great!

The coldest pub in England

had initially decided to “let it go” after our stay, but now that I realise the hotel is owned by a large corporation, I’m confident they can handle the feedback.
The staff were genuinely lovely — warm, attentive, and easily the highlight of the experience. The food and drink were exactly what you’d expect, and the rooms, though a little small, were comfortable with decent beds.
We stayed here hoping for that classic coach-inn charm, but instead found a rather tired pub, under-heated and carrying a vibe reminiscent of an RSL in Rooty Hill.
It’s a pub, hotel, conference centre, wedding venue, dog-friendly café, and short-term office space all rolled into one — but doesn’t really excel at any of them. A little like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, it’s trying to play every instrument at once, and the result feels messy.
