The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the staff are friendly.
Now for the negatives:
The room was freezing. There's no heating unless you pay USD 9 per night. The whole hotel is cold and staff were wearing coats the whole time I was there.
There was a lot of noise as people left to go on trips which echoed around the hotel
There is no soundproofing in the rooms.
The wifi is slow at best.
The shower ranged from freezing to slightly warm.
Breakfast is only served from 7:00 - 9:00. If you are leaving early they will give you a packed breakfast which consists of a banana, an orange, dry crackers, a small packet of biscuits and a bottle of water.
Breakfast in the hotel is little better.
There are no tea or coffee making facilities in the hotel. If you want a bottle of water that is 3 sols even at breakfast.
There is nothing around the hotel. If you want to go to the centre it's about a 30 minute walk.
Alhough it advertises airport transfer this is charged.
I'm sure that there must be far better hotels at the same price

The staff are fantastic and really look after their guests. It is formally listed as 3* hotel, likely due to not having lots of extra facilities but it is definitely on the higher end of three for being clean, secure and comfortable. Where chain hotels treat guests as a cash machine, this hotel, being smaller and family run treats guests with respect and as much attention as you want.
The location is okay, being a 15-20 minute walk out of the historic centre of Cusco and the area is filled with local people going about their lives. Plenty of local places to eat nearby, or walk in toward the centre for the pricier places catering to tourists. The surrounding area is not beautiful but it is functional and safe.
If leaving early (before breakfast) on tours to surrounding area attractions they will give you a small bag with water fruit and some snacks. Even for really early pick ups!
Highly recommended.
