Great city hotel

Stayed two nights in Taipei at this hotel which is located in one of Taipei's better situated districts. It is surrounded by shopping streets, but also with streets with small shops and restaurants. It is a short half hour by taxi from the National Palace Museum which you should definitely visit. Very welcoming reception and check-in in the room. We reserved a ‘premier twin room with balcony’. A lovely spacious room with two huge double beds with very hard mattress, but with good pillows, a spacious walk-in dressing area with safe, a spacious bathroom with doice, separate toilet, large bathtub and two sinks. The balcony is unfurnished and really not necessary, because it is tropical outside and you therefore have more noise. With the windows closed you hear little from outside and the air conditioning in the room is quiet. There are several restaurants where you can eat. Everything big at the price. A steak in Robin’s Grill costs at least € 100. Tea for two with two pastries fare
€ 30. Plenty of staff everywhere who are particularly nice, but in the restaurants you have to be very patient if you want to attract the attention of some. It seems like the staff in the restaurants always look the wrong way. The food is not always served at the same time and so you have to ask again where that is. We did not always love the quality of the food and had dishes with chewy pieces of meat. During the two dinners in restaurant Azie, an orchestra with singer played delicious music in a fairly loud way. Nice to observe the comings and goings of the people in this busy restaurant. Special, especially for lovers of exclusive fashion, are the Regent Galleries, luxury shops under the hotel with the most exclusive fashion brands and jewellers such as Bvlgari, Harry Winston, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Issey Miyake, etc.
We found the hotel somewhat dated, but everything is well maintained and shoulders. Striking were the many thresholds at which someone is positioned to point that out. Why don't you adjust that so this can be fixed? Furthermore, we found the breakfast buffet rather Asian in offer. There was little in between for the Western tourist such as (not sweet) sandwiches and cheese. The plastic-like jam for the dried-out croissants weren't quite to cheer up either. Furthermore, it is a lovely hotel and it also excels in the communication prior to the stay that we, in this case, had reserved through Booking.com. You'll get answers to everything right away. The booking conditions are more flexible than when you book directly.

Past its prime. Don't waste your time with this hotel.

Stayed here for a layover, and I will actively avoid this property moving forward. It is far overpriced for what it has to offer. Location is great, but the staff can be transactional, facilities outdated, and amenities lacking. I have stayed at this property several times in the past and was impressed by the warmth of the staff and the amenities. However, these stays were prior to Covid, and all of those were gone. My current stay was a one-night layover. I am by the way a Diamond Ambassador at IHG. Upon check in, they told me my room was upgraded but that they can only allow me to check in if I accept a check in past noon and a check out at 7AM the next day! This was despite the fact that they emailed me several days prior asking about my arrival details! (At other properties, I have been offered a room within an hour or two of an early arrival with possibility of no upgrade, or a higher room with a longer waiting time). I finally got to my room and the carpet was musty and stained. Aircon was not cooling well past sunset and I woke up at 3AM sweating. Bed was rock hard. Their welcome fruit platter had been greatly reduced from prior to Covid. Staff were very very transactional and not once was I asked how my stay was. I skipped breakfast the next day and left at around 5AM, ahead of my planned check out time. Horrible experience for an approximate $300 night. By the way, their "leave a review" option on the IHG web site is deactivated. I wonder why.

Nice room and facilities; a shopping arcade with an award-winning cafe on site; many restaurants nearby. Highly recommended.

Solid hotel with friendly staff, but dated rooms and overwhelming crowds

I stayed at the Regent Hotel Taipei for several nights. Overall, it’s a solid upscale option, but there are a few things to be aware of.
The room felt a bit dated, with wall-to-wall carpeting that smelled slightly musty. The hotel itself seems like a cross between a luxury shopping mall and a hotel, so at times you’ll find huge crowds everywhere.
If you want to dine at one of the two Robin restaurants, be prepared: you apparently need to book at least a month in advance. There were no exceptions even for hotel guests, which was disappointing.
Breakfast feels like an invasion—hundreds of people descending on the buffet all at once. If you don’t like crowds, go early.
On the plus side, the rooms themselves were quiet, and the staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. Also, there are no bathroom amenities by default due to environmental policies, but you can request them separately

Regent is a 5-star hotel with great service and good location in Zhongshan District in Taipei. Price wise is a bit on the high side but the hotel service is top notch.
There is also a small shopping gallery inside the hotel with shops selling luxury products such as LV and Chanel. There is live music at the cafe inside the hotel too.
The rooms are big and bed is comfortable. Breakfast is great with big variety of cuisine to choose from.
Location is about 10-15mins walk to Zhongshan MRT train station.
Nearby has many shops which is convenient.
