Charming, quaint, retreat with beautiful grounds, a great balsamic tour, and a staff that is second to none
It is hard to overstate how wonderful Il Borgo del Balsamico team was to us. First, the property is charming. It is an historic property that is well-kept, charming, clean, and secure. There is plentiful parking, and the team makes it easy to go in and out after hours. The grounds are beautiful. The breakfast was tasty and held in a charming alcove of the property overlooking the gardens. Our room was clean, decorated nicely, and added to the experience of staying in a historic balsamic house. The tour, given by Georgia, was well done. She provided a soup-to-nuts description of the process of manufacturing DOP balsamic vinegar, and all of the variants. She was very knowledgeable about the process and fielded many questions from the audience. During the balsamic tasting, she did a wonderful job in describing the product and helping understand how it would be used. The hotel team provided recommendations for local restaurants, made reservations, and the locations were exactly what we were looking for--they helped recommend places that suited our style and day--not just places they wanted people to go to. Georgia was also very patient with us when we asked many questions in the store shop about the various vinegars that are available for purchase. Perhaps most significant, one evening I experienced a medical issue that required a trip to the hospital. The staff could not have been more accommodating to us. They were empathic and helped us extend our stay (in an upgraded room at no additional cost), which was very appreciated after a night in a hospital! The entire Borgo del Balsamico team--and Georgia in particular--is part of what makes travel wonderful. You go halfway across the world and meet people who are kind and helpful in a challenging moment. I cannot say enough about how wonderful our stay was.

The beauty of heritage is unfortunately not enough…
It could be magnificent, the place is full of charm and authenticity...unfortunately not very well maintained and the improvements are of poor quality. A contemporary and respectful renovation as the Italians know how to do so well would make the property magnificent. This may not be what the owners want or can do. The hotel industry does not seem to be the priority.
The rooms are sad and gloomy, the comfort basic and old-fashioned, the swimming pool dilapidated, the gardens abandoned (boxwood and rose bushes would be wonderful if they were pruned..)
Obviously the price seems too high given the comfort offered.
Sorry for this negative comment. We understand the maintenance constraints of these beautiful old homes….

Historic home and oasis of peace
I stayed with my family in this truly enchanting location with an Italian garden. Clean, welcoming room furnished with tasteful furniture. The entire structure reflects the owners' taste for beautiful things and tells their family story. The staff is very efficient, friendly and available for every type of need. Ideal for relaxing. I recommend a visit to the ancient vinegar factory followed by a tasting of the Borgo's products, which I was able to purchase and are truly excellent! We will definitely be back!!

Failure
We had booked for two nights. When we arrived in the evening, we found a stuffy hot room in which a weak fan did not help. During the night, it stopped working completely due to overheating. Sleeping was out of the question in this oven-like heat, especially as the road, which was only 5 m away from the open window, was constantly being used by traffic. The gardens must have been beautiful at one time. Today, like the buildings, they are very neglected. On the way to the pool, we almost stepped in dog excrement, the pool shower and the pool area were full of wasps, and we were eaten by mosquitoes in the garden. We found a towel in the bathroom with holes in it. When we complained in the morning and announced our early departure, one of the owners, who was busy at a table two meters behind the reception, did not bother to come to us. Instead, she left the matter to her employee, who had to come to her table each time to ask if we could get a refund for the second night, which she said no to. So we paid around €350 for this lousy stay, which was a complete rip-off. Not recommended.

Peace and tranquility
We loved this peaceful tranquil place, traditional rooms, we had a good nights sleep , roomy bathroom, great breakfast including Parma ham and parmigiana reggiano served with their own balsamico.served by a lovely lady.
Swimming pool we didn’t get to use, but peaceful gardens with plenty of shady places to sit, they include a tour of the balsamico process , I am sure it is very informative , but we were leaving quite early so did not take it. We have visited another acetaia so we understand the long long process of making balsamico.
We highly recommend you search out this lovely place to stay when visiting Reggio Emilia
