AWFUL EXPERIENCE - UNTRAINED STAFF - do not stay here
I have stayed at this Hyatt in Greenville several times before over many years going back to when I was a kid.
I called the front desk to ask if I made the reservation could I call back and have them block the suite and connector and an additional room across the hall. I spoke to Kristen and she said sure and told me what type of rooms to book.
We needed the connector because of our 13 year old daughter and the room across the hall was for our 18 year old. We have four kids and only two are traveling on this part of the trip but we always get the grown ones their own rooms as it helps with getting ready quicker in the mornings.
I spoke to Kristen on June 26th who said she blocked it all on the 5th floor and she said she was the night manager.
This past Wednesday or Thursday night I have to look back on my phone I called Kristen to confirm everything was good to go and she said it was.
We arrived today at the hotel around 4:30 pm and while I was unloading the car as we always do my wife goes to check in. Samantha at the front desk would not let her check in because I was not there. I had to stop unloading the car and go inside and tell Samantha personally that it was ok for my wife to check in.
Then as I went to park the car my wife called and said they have no suites and the only connecting rooms they have left is doubles to doubles.
I told Samantha to call Kristen who was not working today and get this figured out. Samantha went in the back and then came back out and said she called Kristen and she said that she never remembers talking to me. We spoke three times on the phone. She gave me her name and told me where our rooms would be.
I was furious at this point.
I told Samantha we wanted the rooms comped our points back for the two rooms we were using points on and should not have to pay for the other room as it was supposed to be a suite.
She said she did not know what she could do and would call me.
So we just spent 30 plus minutes arguing with the front desk because our rooms were not correct.
Samantha called back and said she would lower the rate on the room to the rack rate for not having the suite and refund 12,000 points for one room but not both.
I said that was not acceptable.
She said she would have to call me back.
She called back and said they would comp the room no charge, but could not give additional points back. She offered free breakfast which I really don’t need.
What I needed was for my rooms to be correct upon checkin.
We travel and stay at hotels for two to three months out of the year. I call the hotels, I check back as I did with this one and Hyatt failed us.
In addition Samantha is not properly trained. I asked for the general managers card and she said she did not have one and he has nothing to do with this that he handles sales. So that is one of the reasons I’m having to reach out to you. I went up to the room snd called the hotel and asked to be transferred to the hotel general managers voice mail. Samantha refused and said she could let him know I called. What is that? Why would the general manager not have a number or email that he could be contacted if a guest has an issue.
I would like to know if she really called Kristen, why did they give away the rooms they were supposed to have to someone else and why are these employees not trained. Samantha has no business being left in charge over a weekend and saying she can’t get in touch with the front desk manager or general manager who won’t be in until Monday. This is an awful way to start our trip. I still have not heard from the general manager.
Last night we were at The Alamite Hotel in Alabama where we stay quite frequently on the way to Florida or up the east coast. We had no issues, I have the general managers number and email as I do for pretty much any hotel we stay at.
I’m not sure why at the Hyatt Regency in Greenville this is a secret.
I would appreciate a response back, I would appreciate all my points refunded, and I would like a letter of apology from Kristen and Samantha. I would also hope that training is done for them.
Two other issues at the hotel you need to be aware about.
One, the trash cans in the bathrooms are very small with a lid on them that you are supposed to use your foot to step on and open to throw something away. That is not very practical for hotel bathroom and having to put your foot on something to open it up.
Two, when you walk to the parking garage from the 2nd floor of the hotel going out on the pathway, you have an outside smoking section. You have to walk through this smoking section to get to the garage. That makes no sense. I have bad asthma as well as my daughter and the last thing I should have to do is walk through people smoking which there were each time we went through it smoking. It is nasty, it smells, and that is not an impression you want of your hotel.
If you are going to have an outside smoking section, it should be moved elsewhere where the general public does not have to walk through.
I appreciate your time and hope you all are able to correct these issues and train the employees more effectively.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during your recent stay. We understand how important it is to have a seamless experience, especially when traveling with family, and we deeply regret that we fell short of meeting your expectations. We regret to learn about the miscommunication surrounding your room reservations. This is not the level of service we strive to provide. Please be assured that we will look into this matter internally and ensure that further training is provided to avoid situations like this in the future. Regarding the issues you raised with the trash cans and smoking zone, we will review both concerns to improve the guest experience. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we will make the necessary changes. We deeply regret that this affected your stay, and we hope to have the opportunity to make it right in the future.
